I Need Advice

I have this kitchen table. I hate it. My hate boarders on loathing. The top is cov-ered in fork jabs and the varnish is worn off in patches. There are even flecks of paint and marker stains that won't come out. Don't even get me started on the chairs, they're beyond a mess.

So, here's where I need your help. Do I buy a new one or just repaint this one? It's a conundrum. Here are my thoughts:

A new table would be lovely, but the kids would destroy it. As it stands now, I could care less what happens at this current table. If I get a new one, I'd hover and yell at them for every little thing. I already yell a lot, so why add more? Oh, and I'm in need of an immense amount of dental work. If I don't buy a table, I can afford some crowns.

But then there's the flip side. I could paint it. Just the thought of the labor involved makes me cringe. Would it even be worth it? What if I hate it even more once it's painted? The cost wouldn't be high, but it would take years off my life to paint and coat 6 chairs.

Alright, tell me what to do. And while you're at it, will someone please, please, please tell me how to get my 8 yr. old to stop wiping her mouth on her sleeve? Don't even suggest a napkin. That's far too easy and answer.

You always do a fabulous job painting things - it is a pain, but definitely worth it in the end. If you do get a new table, get a distressed one like I have, then no matter what the kids do to it, it adds to the "charm." I was basically no help!! Sorry!!

Normally I would say paint, but for me the idea of painting makes me sick. I have painted so much! I never want to paint again!!! My advice is buy loads of cool table cloths.

I say paint the table, buy new chairs. The colors for your table are endless. Mine is currently a periwinkle blue and it's quite possibly the greatest idea i've ever had. Also, spray painting the chairs makes it a lot easier, but I just ended up still not loving my spray painted chairs and bought new ones.

We had a table just like this that was going down in flames and didn't have the money for a new one. So, I buckled down and painted it. I was able to pick a fun color because I didn't have much to lose. I am so glad I did it, it extended the life of the table and the fun color made me smile every time I saw it. I didn't tackle the chairs however, thinking of that kind of overwhelmed me.

I have a pair of plyers to pull the problem teeth out with. That will be free and you will have money for two tables :-)

have you heard of caromal colours? i have never used them myself, but my sister used it to refinish a desk and she loved it. it can get a little pricey, but sill cheaper than a new table. here is the link> http://www.caromalcolours.com/

painting wouldn't be that bad. Spray paint for sure is the way to go. I just did a dresser and bed for miles' room and it turned out great and definitely a HUGE money saver. Paint is cheap. You can do it.
Oh, and on the wiping mouth with sleeve it's a contant battle at my house to.

the thought of sanding and painting all the chairs makes my stomach turn! I liked the ideas to paint the table and buy new chairs too! Then you still won't have to stress much about the table! Seems logical :D
